Jaime King Reveals Her Must-Have Baby Items

Jaime King with husband and sonCourtesy Jaime King

As a new mom still in the thick of newborn-ness, Jaime King has strong opinions about which baby items are really worth having.

And she’s more than willing to share her recommendations with others.

“I wish there had been a site like Cricket’s Circle when I was pregnant! I’m a minimalist, we don’t like to have a lot of stuff or junk or waste,” she said.

“Doesn’t matter what it costs, but does it work for you, your life and your child. I went through so many things out there and this is what I realize really works.

Recently, King revealed her favorites with the cool online mommy resource and we’re sharing a few with you. Check them out below.

tkCourtesy Cricket’s Circle

STROLLER
“The best stroller hands-down is the Orbit G3. I learned from Jessica [Alba] how to swivel the base to the side so you can put all your bags in there – it’s a luggage rack! The City Mini GT for hikes because it’s super-light.”

TOYS
“There’s so many fancy brands out there but Fisher Price is the best. It’s affordable, available everywhere, well-made, tried and true.”

ACTIVITY CENTER
“The Jumparoo is both stimulating and educational.”

LAYETTE
Sapling Child from Australia. I’m so obsessed, it’s really beautiful, organic, and uses nontoxic dyes. They all have a beautiful message that’s a great reminder for you and your baby.”

HIGH CHAIR
“The Nuna. I love that it grows with the baby, from a high chair to a regular chair to a seat. I can’t stand waste!”

MOTION CHAIR
BabyBjorn babysitter, we take it everywhere. He can sit up and hang out. I like to give him a bottle in it. A splurge is the Momaroo; it’s amazing. Of all the fancy products, it’s so worth it. It can rock newborns to sleep.”

CRIB
“The Oeuf Sparrow crib is fairly affordable for being nontoxic. And Honest just came out with a $399 crib!”

BEDDING
“I have the star pattern Aden + Anais organic sheets, but I’m into the plain, white or purple/grey too. Something that I learned from my nanny: put 2 sheets on, so you can peel off the top one in the middle of the night if he pees through the diaper or the sleep sack and you’re not stripping the whole crib.”

BATHTUB
“Someone gave me a fancy bathtub and it was supposed to tell the temperature and everything, but I love the Fisher Price one for the hammock because he’s immersed, but fully supported.”

So Cute! Ciara Shares Photo of Her All-White Nursery

We admire Ciara‘s motherhood moxie. Instead of traditional shades of blue or even a bold green, the singer’s nursery is all-white — literally.

Everything from the cozy glider and stuffed animal to the circular crib and bedding are in the neutral shade.

Don’t believe us? On Tuesday, the mom-to-be (who is expecting a boy soon) shared a shot of her tranquil baby room on Instagram.

“In love With My @AngelSongHome gliding chair, and my @BrattDecor baby crib for my little prince. This is all surreal. Everything about this time and process … Wow!!” she captioned the photo.

Clearly, Ciara is really into the color right now. At BFF Kim Kardashian‘s bridal shower on Saturday, she wore Rachel Pally‘s long caftan ($238) in cream. And as usual, she showed off her maternity style with a series of sweet pics.

Inside Ellen Pompeo’s Colorful Rooms for Daughters Stella and Sienna

After keeping the birth of her second daughter a secret for two months, Ellen Pompeo is ready to reveal all the latest updates in her life.

The Grey’s Anatomy star, 44, opened the doors to her Los Angeles home for Architectural Digestgiving readers a glimpse into her 16,000 square-foot abode, located in Los Feliz.

Although the home was originally built in the 1930s, when Pompeo and her husband Chris Ivery purchased the property in 2009, updates throughout the decades had left much to be desired.

But Pompeo was up for the challenge.

“Everything has been done before, so the question becomes, ‘How do you take something classic and make it fresh for a new generation?’ ” she tells the magazine.

The couple worked with L.A. decorator Martyn Lawrence-Bullard and the actress focused her efforts on “giving the house the attention it desperately needed.” In addition to brightening the rooms with plenty of natural light, rebuilding the rustic kitchen and creating an outdoor oasis, the mom-of-two also designed two extra special places in the family home.

For Sienna May‘s nursery, Pompeo — who welcomed her baby girl via surrogate two months ago — brightened the white walls with colorful headdresses from Nickey Kehoe, which complemented the fuchsia crib.

Offsetting the white and yolk-colored dresser is a child-sized chair from Pierre Jeanneret and a cozy carpet from the Rug Company.

Not only did Pompeo share Sienna’s nursery, she also revealed daughter Stella Luna‘s colorful sleep space.

Centered around mix-and-match patterns, the 5-year-old’s room features bean bags, an ottoman and matching bedding all from Missoni Home. Adding to the comfy setting are oversized pillows with fabric from Stark, a few plush pals and a chevron-print lantern hanging from the ceiling.

“When something is so respected, you can turn it into something else, so that you are looking at it anew,” Pompeo says. “Reinvention is invention.”

J.P. and Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum: How We’re Tackling Breastfeeding As a Team

$

J.P. and Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum‘s love story just keeps getting sweeter.

After paying tribute to their whirlwind romance with a travel-themed baby shower in July, the parents-to-be turned to planning a nursery for their baby boy — and it was obvious which direction they were heading.

“Ashley and J.P. have many memories of traveling together, so the nursery features a subtle travel theme,” designer Vanessa Antonelli, who worked with the couple on the room, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Using a paneled wall as the focal point, the couple created a sophisticated sleep space featuring wall clocks representing the places they’ve visited together, chic accessories that play into the theme, including sailboats and maps, and a neutral color palette that can easily grow with their child.

“Ashley knew exactly what she wanted and worked with me to choose the pieces that went into the room,” says Antonelli. “But even more surprising was that she is a little contractor! Ashley actually put up most of that Stikwood wall all by herself.”

And just as she took to carpentry, Hebert Rosenbaum is already excelling at motherhood since the Sept. 30 arrival of son Fordham Rhys.

“Ashley has taken to motherhood like she has been doing it all her life. It always makes me smile to see how she handles Ford,” Rosenbaum says.

Christina Mendoza of Tutti Bambini

In an exclusive interview, the proud new parents opened up to PEOPLE about everything from the moment they met Ford to overcoming the initial challenges of breastfeeding and their favorite room in their home: the nursery.

PEOPLE: Congratulations on your baby boy! What have the first few weeks been like as new parents?

Ashley: The first two weeks have been great. (Knock on wood.) Fordham has been a sweet and easy baby so far, but we know things can change!

Parenthood has brought J.P. and I closer together and has allowed us to realize what is important to us. Our lives revolve around caring for this sweet little boy and making sure we provide him with all the things he needs to be fulfilled! We are loving every moment of it!

Courtesy J.P. Rosenbaum

PEOPLE: Ashley, you’ve mentioned it was a tough recovery. How have you been doing? What’s been the hardest part?

Ashley: I ended up having a c-section so my recovery has lasted a bit longer than what we expected. J.P. really had to take care of both me and the baby for the first few days. He really stepped up his dad and husband game!

At the hospital, he was up for every feeding, brought me anything I needed, and changed every diaper!! I couldn’t have done it without him. I am so proud to call him my husband and baby daddy!

Christina Mendoza of Tutti Bambini

PEOPLE: What was it like seeing Fordham for the first time?

Ashley: Seeing Ford for the first time was a moment we both will never forget. To me, he was the most gorgeous baby I had ever seen. After months of dreaming of the moment I would first get to hold him, it was finally here. It felt surreal.

I was also mesmerized by how much he looked like his Dad. The first thing I said was, “He looks exactly like J.P.!!” He still does!

Christina Mendoza of Tutti Bambini

PEOPLE: How has your relationship with each other changed since becoming parents? (Other than fighting over who gets to hold the baby!) Who’s handling most of the diaper duty?

Ashley: Throughout our relationship, our bond always seems to grow stronger with each milestone we reach. It’s still very early in our parenting careers, but it’s easy to see that it’ll take a lot of teamwork, support for one another, and patience when raising this child. You really need to be on the same page all the time. Ask us this question again when we are seasoned parents.

J.P. claims that I’m a bit of a baby hog. I don’t think I am! I just enjoy waking up with him in the middle of the night, cuddling with him in the rocking chair and changing his diaper. So, I guess I am the one on diaper duty. Okay, maybe I am a bit of a baby hog.

Courtesy J.P. Rosenbaum

PEOPLE: Ashley, can you tell us how breastfeeding is going? Have you hit any road bumps or did Fordham get the hang of it pretty quickly?

Ashley: I will say that the one thing I was not prepared for was how difficult breastfeeding was at the beginning. Everyone warns you about the sleepless nights and c-section recovery, but breastfeeding was the most difficult part of my recovery.

It was the only thing that made me break. It was so painful and emotionally exhausting. I would dread feeding and couldn’t enjoy the time we were supposed to spend bonding. Luckily, it only lasted a few days, and it’s become a lot easier. Why doesn’t anyone talk about how difficult it is?!

Christina Mendoza of Tutti Bambini

PEOPLE: J.P., how do you support Ashley and Fordham’s nursing routine? Do you get up for the late-night feeds?

J.P.: Believe it or not, there really is a LOT for me to do while Ashley is nursing. It ranges from cooking to cleaning to foot massages, to just about anything that will help her relax and focus on Ford.

Ash’s parents have been in town to help out for the first two weeks, so I’ve had it pretty easy. Ash has really been great about the late night feeds. She’s usually the one to get up because she knows I have work early the following day.

Don’t get me wrong, I offer and I’m more than happy to do it, but I think she actually loves doing it. Plus, it kinda helps if you have boobs!

Ashley Hebert J.P. Rosenbaum Son Ford Photo
Courtesy J.P. Rosenbaum

PEOPLE: Tell us about the nursery. Did you have a theme in mind from the start? Was there one item that you liked and used to build everything else around it?

Ashley: I am obsessed with our nursery. I went into my design session with Vanessa Antonelli from NessaLee Baby with an open mind; I wasn’t exactly sure which way I wanted to go with it.

I knew I didn’t want anything too babyish and I wanted a room he could grow into. Travel has been such an important part of our relationship, we thought it would be an appropriate theme. We also knew his name was going to be Ford, and that also went along with the travel theme! Perfect.

I was torn between doing a rustic or a modern room, so we decided to combine the two! I could not be happier with the way the room turned out. It is the best room in our home and Ford LOVES it too!

Ricky Stern Photography

PEOPLE: J.P., did you let Ashley handle designing the nursery or were you equally involved?

J.P.: Yes, this was something that Ashley has been dreaming about ever since we found out she was pregnant. I let her have free reign.

Plus, I was a bit superstitious when it came to doing things for the baby prior to him being born.

Ricky Stern Photography

PEOPLE: What’s your favorite part of the nursery?

Ashley: It’s so difficult to pick only one favorite part of the room, so I will pick three! Visually, my favorite part of the room is the Stikwood wall. It’s really the centerpiece and adds such a cool, rustic feel to the room.

Functionally, my favorite part of the room is the Little Castle glider. It is where I nurse, cuddle and rock Ford to sleep. It holds many special moments for us.

I also love my Kidsmill changing table and dresser. It is the most gorgeous piece of furniture we own and adds a modern touch to our room.

Ricky Stern Photography

PEOPLE: How has your dog adjusted to Fordham? Was there anything special you did to prepare her for baby?

Ashley: Our dog Boo has really surprised us. She usually requires a lot of attention, but she’s stepped back and has been much less maintenance since the baby has arrived.

She’s getting more comfortable with the baby, but hasn’t cuddled with him yet; she even runs away from him when he cries.

We brought her one of his blankets from the hospital the day before we brought him home, but I’m not sure that really did anything!

Inside Bill Horn and Scout Masterson’s Medieval Nursery

Every knight is a good night for Bosley Jo.

His parents, Bill Horn and Scout Masterson – who welcomed their second child in August – have created a modern chic sleep space for their baby boy, featuring bold blues, antique accents and a courageous theme.

“We’re so pleased that the nursery turned out the way it did,” the reality stars and design enthusiasts tell PEOPLE exclusively. “It’s fun, colorful and original with a touch of whimsy — just like our baby Boz’s personality.”

But the medieval motif took a while to pull together. After poring over nursery ideas, the couple couldn’t find one they felt fit for their son.

“We discussed many, many themes, but we didn’t want to duplicate someone else’s look and we didn’t want to pick a current trend,” Masterson says.

Then, while searching cool wallpapers online, they came across the one — a medieval castle and dragons design — from Paper Boy London. “The whole look of the room came together from there,” he explains.

To complement the adventurous pattern, the proud new parents painted the adjoining wall — which they converted into a bookshelf with Straight and Narrow book ledges from The Land of Nod – the same deep blue of the characters and chose the background’s pale blue for the rest of the room.

“Boz loves to stare at the wallpaper,” they say of their son, who sleeps in a Stokke Baby Sleepi Mini, which is on wheels and can be easily moved around his nursery during the day and to the couple’s bedside for late-night feedings.

But the deep blue wall wasn’t enough for Horn, 42, and Masterson: They were on the hunt for a coordinating accent piece that could grow with their little guy. The couple eventually enlisted the help of ducduc to create a custom four-drawer dresser.

“We are obsessed,” Masterson, 40, says. “The dresser is so well made, we know we’ll have the piece forever.”

In addition to Bosley’s dresser, his dads added plenty of other personal touches including a floor lamp they had converted from an old brass candlestick, a personalized pillow, cuddly blankets from Little Giraffe, and a medieval mobile Masterson found and had customized with his son’s initial.

And when their baby boy is old enough to play with his parents and big sister Simone, it will be a sweet reminder of Horn’s own childhood.

“When we were looking for items to fill up the room, Bill remembered having a Fisher Price castle as a kid,” Masterson says. “He loved it so we bought one on eBay.”

Butterflies, Horses and Tents, Oh My! Inside Stephen Curry’s Daughters’ Whimsical New Bedroom

He shoots, he scores — on a room fit for two princesses, that is!

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha recently teamed up with Pottery Barn Kids to build a fairytale-worthy bedroom/playroom for their daughters: Riley, 3½, and Ryan, 10 months.

Riley had other plans and was feeling pinks and purple (naturally),” Ayesha noted on her blog post about the room, for which she had originally envisioned yellows and teals.

And though Ayesha was worried it might have ended up an “eye sore” due to the color choices of her oldest daughter, she confesses, “It ended up being gorgeous, playful, light and airy, and a place they could could grow into throughout their childhood.”

The couple worked with Pottery Barn Kids in the past to put together Ryan’s gender-neutral nursery shortly before her birth, but according to Ayesha’s blog, the family had to find a new home due to privacy issues. Luckily, PBK was there to help once again make the Currys’ vision a reality.

“The shade of purple they chose was perfect, and the subtle pink accents were just the touch of feminine it needed,” Ayesha shares.

“They added their favorite things, such as butterflies and horses, and even added a little kitchenette reminiscent of my own kitchen,” Ayesha says.

The girls will grow into their Ava Regency canopy beds, monogrammed with each of their names. The beds feature Stella tassel duvet covers with an Ava Regency dresser right in the middle.

The girls’ chic yet imaginative play area includes gold metallic dot mini teepees, a vintage-style Claudia toy chest, a Finley play table and chairs and Ava Regency kid-sized vanity.

And of course, no girl’s room is complete without a place to hang her tutus and store her very important day-to-day supplies, like a horse-print backpack.

“I absolutely love this space, and so do my littles,” Ayesha says on her blog.

Of Pottery Barn Kids, she adds, “It’s always a dream come true when your favorite brands are just as excited to work with you as you are with them.”

Inside Christine Lakin’s Daughter’s Southern Style Nursery: ‘It’s Definitely a Room That Will Grow with Her’

It’s all coming together, Step By Step!

Christine Lakin, who gave birth to daughter Georgia James in March, has been a busy bee. In between tending to her newborn daughter with husband Brandon Breault and finding time to blog about her experiences as a new mom, she has also put together a stunning nursery fit for any southern belle.

“I wanted to bring a touch of southern style to Georgia’s nursery, and love the way the peach and pink colors pop out against the gray,” Lakin, 37, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The southern influence makes sense for the Texas-born, Georgia-raised new mom considering her daughter’s namesake and that her baby shower was peach-themed.

“The évolur crib is so beautiful,” the Mother’s Day star says. “I think it’s such a modern color for a girl’s room and the dresser construction is so exquisite with the soft closure drawers. It’s definitely a room set that will grow with her.”

She continues, “The quilt was made by my husband’s great aunt, and is such a special gift straight from the heart of the Midwest. Handmade traditions like that are so incredible and unique.”

“I found the fabric banner on Etsy, as well as the carved wood sign,” she adds. “We hung artwork by our photographer friend Jamie Arrigo, and some paintings my husband did as well.”

And it seems as if the serene sleep space is already a hit with the couple’s baby girl.

“Georgia is just starting to take in the colors and movement of her mobile, and it’s so fun to watch her change and grow every day,” the proud mom shares. “Mabel’s Labels have also helped me keep her gifts and hand-me-downs organized.”

Lakin may have bought a lot of her daughter’s nursery items new, but she also wasn’t afraid to turn to friends for other things.

“Many of my friends had girls and passed on their treasures,” she says. “Love me some recycled clothes!”

If the name of his 8-week-old son Odin Reign isn’t enough indication that new dad Nick Carter wants his first child’s dreams to be “Larger Than Life,” the design of his nursery certainly is.

The Backstreet Boys member, 36, and wife of two years Lauren Kitt Carter shared photos of their baby boy’s nursery, taken by Julie Cate, exclusively with PEOPLE.

The look of Odin’s room was created with adventure in mind, featuring animals, a wallpaper with a hot-air-balloon print, a small world globe and modern lighting fixtures. Gray, white and yellow hues decorate the nursery, offering elegant pockets of color while still keeping the space soothing.

The room’s lead designer was Stephanie Avila of Rockabye Mommy, and features bedding and linens designed by Tori Swaim of New Arrivals, Inc.

The fun-loving yet sophisticated room also has an antique feel, thanks to unique lighting sconces and a mix of wood and metal elements throughout, paired with modern linens and furniture. Books placed strategically around the nursery will inspire Odin as he grows.

Dark letters adorn the wall above the littlest Carter’s crib, spelling out his name between whimsical light fixtures that serve as the focal point of the nursery’s industrial-influenced edge. The “Be Brave” crib skirt and gray triangle-print crib sheet from New Arrivals, Inc. add pops of color to the mostly neutral sleep area of the room.

The theme-loving new parents opted for a whitewashed dresser/changing-table combo to complete the space, decorated with an angular pattern and drawer handles that complement the arrow and herringbone accents worked into Odin’s changing pad, crib bedding and bassinet linens.

One nursery item not pictured? Recorded lullabies for Odin, courtesy of his proud papa.

“[Nick]’s going to record an album, a private album of all our favorite nursery songs,” Kitt Carter said in April. “So when he does have to travel and we’re not able to go with him, we can play it.”

A Whole New World: Inside Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley’s Disney-Inspired Nursery for Son Greyson

Jenni “JWoww” Farley may not live close to Walt Disney World, but her 6-week-old son Greyson Valor still gets to enjoy a bit of the fairytale at home.

The Jersey Shore alum, 30, and husband Roger Mathews opted for a Disney-themed nursery for their second child, who recently joined 23-month-old big sister Meilani Alexandra as the newest member of the household.

Farley, who designed the primarily gray-and-aqua space herself, purchased furniture and décor from Delta Children and Etsy, while the owl mobile is from My Baby Sam, Inc. The bumper, sheet and skirt for the 4-in-1 convertible crib, as well as the room’s custom curtains, are all by New Arrivals, Inc.

Custom letters adorned with blue bows — also by New Arrivals, Inc. — spell out “Once Upon a Time” above Greyson’s changing table, whose drawer knobs Farley painted herself.

The former reality star also shared in a YouTube video that there’s a very specific, and sweet, reason she chose the room’s artwork.

“I want my son to grow up looking at these pictures and knowing what it’s like to treat any woman he comes across like a princess,” she says.

But the room isn’t overly Disney: Farley incorporated elements like zoo animals and plenty of books.

“This is a little riding thing … I don’t know exactly what it is,” Farley says of the large gray hippo atop the bookshelf. “So I’m keeping it up there because it’s super cute.”

As for the fireplace that Farley says is an “eyesore” but “is what it is,” she made sure to give it the Disney touch as well. Stuffed-animal versions of characters like Simba, Mickey and Olaf sit on the mantel, while paintings of Jafar and Gaston give the wall a little villainous edge.

One person who “does not dare” to critique Farley’s Disney-design dreams? Her husband, whom she recently said she has an even better relationship with now that they’re parents.

“We have much more respect for each other now,” she said at the time. “Roger is so hands on with both of them it made me fall in love with him all over again.”

One of Lacey Chabert‘s most famous roles may have been as a Mean Girl, but judging from just the look of her soon-to-arrive daughter‘s sleep space, you’d never know it.

From shades of pink, cream and gray to florals, faux fur and crystal, one message is clear: This little lady — who will be the first child for Chabert and husband Dave Nehdar — will be starting off on the sweetest, and chicest, foot.

“I love that the room feels peaceful,” Chabert, 33, tells PEOPLE exclusively, adding that she hopes the couple’s daughter loves the room as much as they do.

The space, which was designed by Vanessa Antonelli, features hardwood floors and healthy amounts of pink in both linens and décor.

“Lacey is one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met and I wanted to give her a nursery that reflected that,” Antonelli tells PEOPLE. “She is so excited to be having a baby girl and the furthest thing from her mind was gender neutral. So I created a feminine and sweet space that exudes warmth and a lot of love.”

She adds, “At first glance it seems like a traditional space, but the clean lines, nailheads on the wall and gray mouldings make it a fusion of modern and traditional.”

Wall art by Lezlee Elliott — which hangs above the Everly Crib by Franklin & Ben — daintily depicts delicious sweets and heavenly scents.

Bella Notte bedding and pink bows add a soft, youthful touch to the crib, while the faux fur stool next to the accompanying Delta glider offers a more vintage vibe. The stuffed animals next to the crib tack on a playful edge that gives the area the perfect balance.

“I’m so excited to think that soon she will be sleeping in the crib,” Chabert, who wore a Rachel Pally Cap Sleeve Isa Dress ($238) for the shoot, says.

Featured in another corner is a cream-colored Amelia dresser to match the crib, complete with a coordinating gray changing pad by Nook. A silver and crystal chandelier hangs above a gray rug, while a matching silver mirror and pink-and-white floral wallpaper complete the area.

“There are so many special touches that make [the nursery] feminine and romantic,” Chabert adds, noting that the room also includes a pink knit blanket made by her own grandmother.

Chabert has been blogging for PEOPLE, taking readers along in her journey from discovering she was pregnant, to learning she was having a girl to figuring out clever ways to conceal her baby bump on movie sets.

But the former Party of Five star has always wanted to be a mom, so getting to be a part of putting together a nursery for her baby girl is something she’ll always cherish.

“Having a baby is a dream come true for us, so we are so happy to be able to give her this beautiful room to grow up in!” she says.

Inside Amy Davidson’s Nautical Nursery for Son Lennox: I ‘Tend to Go Overboard’ with the Anchor Theme

When it came time to design the nursery for Amy Davidson‘s son Lennox Sawyer, now 4 months, there was one person whose influence was front and center.

“Lennox’s room was inspired by my husband. [Kacy Lockwood] is a boat captain and has always had an affinity for the ocean,” the actress, 36, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Adds Davidson, whose baby shower thrown by close pal and former 8 Simple Rules costar Kaley Cuoco sported a similar feel, “Because of this, the nautical theme came naturally to us.”.

“I can tend to go overboard with them,” she jokes of her love for anchors in particular. “So my husband had to set a limit!”

Of the “modern and clean” steel gray space, Davidson notes that she wanted it to have a neutral feel.

“We didn’t want a a typical ‘baby’-style nursery, but furniture and pieces that Lennox can enjoy for years to come and that will grow with him, which is what we found!” she says.

Aside from her husband’s influence, Davidson has another reason for favoring the anchor as a central icon throughout her son’s room.

“For me, they are grounding symbols that represent strength, support and a solid foundation — examples of how I want to raise Lennox,” she says.

The first-time mom collaborated with Evolur‘s design team, who “went above and beyond” to help create the room to match her vision.

And Davidson admits she didn’t want to go too crazy with boats and anchors, so she did a little digging for something else to go naturally alongside the primary theme of the room.

Before Lennox was born, I found some adorable stuffed whales,” she says. “We then found some unique whale pieces that we thought complemented the gorgeous new Evolur furniture that we had absolutely fallen in love with.

“We decided to place the whales above the crib [from Evolur’s Cheyenne line], keeping it streamlined and not too busy.”

Admittedly, some non-seafaring creatures made their way into the nursery — but there’s a very good reason as to why.

“George is wearing the outfit we brought Lennox home in, and the beanie he wore in the hospital and into the first couple months of his life,” Davidson shares of the stuffed monkey situated near the armchair in her son’s nursery.

“My mom gave me the idea of dressing a stuffed animal with an outfit that has a true meaning for us. Seeing Lennox with his mini-me monkey completely warms my heart.”

But baby Lennox’s stuffed monkey pal isn’t the only emotional touch the family made sure was part of his sleep space. His shoes — many of which boast personalized tags from Mabel’s Labels — have a deeper meaning too.

“When we found out we were pregnant, my dad gave me his baby shoes that my grandma had saved all of these years,” Davidson says. “They were on top of our dresser my entire pregnancy, and now they are sitting on Lennox’s hutch. Grandpa’s baby shoes.”

And with style considerations also come practical ones — like the room’s rug, which both supports the look and feel of the environment while providing comfort to Davidson’s new baby boy.

“I wanted a rug that was super soft and complemented our nautical theme,” she says “Lorena Canals has a boat rug that I totally fell in love with. This rug definitely makes tummy time better for Lennox.”

The new mom also shares that Lennox loves his crib, and has been “thriving” over the last couple of weeks since he’s been in his new environment.

“It was a hard transition for me at first, but now everyone is sleeping!” she says. “Hallelujah!”

Life’s a beach for Alex Murrel Johnson‘s baby boy Levi William!

The former star of the hit series Laguna Beach didn’t wander far from her reality roots when it came to the design of her newborn son’s nursery. In fact, the serene side of the ocean is what drew her and husband Kyle Mark Johnson into the room’s theming the most.

“We really wanted the nursery to be subtle and understated with a cozy and welcoming feel,” Murrel Johnson, 29, tells PEOPLE exclusively of the inspiration behind her 6-day-old son‘s sleep space.

“I loved the way it turned out and can’t wait for him to start using it!” the new mom, who was known as “Alex M.” on Laguna Beach, added of the primarily blue-and-white room, which is complete with a few wild animal and rustic touches.

Levi’s boho-inspired room is perfect for the Newport Beach-based family, who live not far from where Murrel starred in Laguna Beach. The show helped the former reality star design the nursery, which ties in soft gray tones with blues and whites, in both solids and a variety of fun patterns.

Kyle’s favorite part of his new son’s room? The large ocean print, whose presence — and that of the various animal prints — were designed to decorate the walls that were left white to create the vision of a “blank canvas.”

“The different themes of bohemian, coastal, modern, and animal inspired intertwine to create a serene space for baby Levi,” according to a press release.

The couple opted for “modern white” furniture for a minimalist vibe, with baby bedding sets, crib skirt, crib sheet and faux fur baby blanket all from New Arrivals, Inc. The rustic ladder with baby clothes hanging casually from it is by Dot & Bo, while the rugs hail from Rugs USA.

And of course, no outdoor-inspired room would be complete without a splash of green.

“We love greenery for nurseries because they add a earthy feel and a pop of color,” the New Arrivals designer says. “The fig tree and succulents mixed with the decorative rustic ladder warm the space and create a cozy area.”

And Murrel Johnson did a little hometown shopping of her own to complete her son‘s room, which also includes an adventure-inspired bookshelf, Roman shades and floating wall shelves.

“The unique dark blue throw pillow found on the rocker was custom created from a piece of fabric Alex picked up at a flea market!” the designer adds.

All the Details on Willa Ford’s Boho-Chic Nursery – Plus Her Meaningful Maternity Portraits

Interior designer Willa Ford admits that even though she has helped bring tons of home visions to fruition, when it came time to design a nursery for her own child, she needed a good place to begin.

“When you do so many different aesthetics for so many different people, you go, ‘I love this trend and that trend’ and get it out of your system. When it comes to yours, you freeze for a minute,” the former singer, who gained fame for her 2001 hit “I Wanna Be Bad,” tells PEOPLE of the gender-neutral room she designed for her first child, a delivery surprise due at the end of August.

“It was honestly about the wallpaper [being] the starting point,” adds the mom-to-be, who married former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Ryan Nece in October.

“With my personality, I just knew it had to look nature-y. It’s so funny — we focus so much on the baby and what the baby’s gonna love. They’re never gonna know what it looks like! I’ll pay money if you can remember what your nursery looked like,” Ford, 35, jokes. “It’s really about the mom!”

The nursery that resulted from Ford’s creative taste features a mix of florals, bamboo, industrial touches, wild animals and a variety of both modern and vintage-inspired elements.

But Ford’s favorite part of the space is actually one of its staples: the crib, which is complete with a white canopy and is part of the Campaign collection by Pottery Barn Kids, along with the dresser.

“I’m hoping the baby is a good sleeper but that’s laughable, let’s be honest,” she says. “I needed a lot of storage, so the furniture I chose had it.”

Another aspect of the room she really digs “function-wise” is the Serena & Lily hanging rattan chair.

“I’ll spend a lot of time rocking in this chair,” she says. “I decided, instead of a glider, to do a hanging chair. People don’t realize how comfortable they are.”

Ford also touches on the importance of the floral wallpaper she is “obsessed” with (“I told him guys like pink too,” she jokes of convincing Nece to get on board with her choice — even if they end up with a son).

“Babies love tummy time and staring at the print, so I wanted to incorporate some patterns so the baby has something to fixate on,” she shares, noting that the idea of considering a simpler color palette just “[isn’t] my personality at all.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main
Josh Williams

Aside from the floral touches and pops of color throughout the room, Ford admits she wanted to incorporate a bit of wildlife (“I’m obsessed with monkeys,” she says, citing the fact that her baby will be born in the Chinese Year of the Monkey) and culture — for a very important reason.

“There’s this really big piece of art from an African tribe. It’s this beautiful picture of someone in full regalia at sunset,” she says, explaining, “I bought it as a gift for my husband for his African-American culture.”

The expectant mom, who competed on Dancing with the Stars in the show’s third season, also made sure to work in pieces that hold sentimental value to both herself and her husband.

“My husband’s mom kept his receiving blanket all these years, and that’s actually on the crib. It’s so sweet!” she says. “There’s a wall of bookshelves — my mother-in-law saved some of Ryan’s books and wrote notes in the favorites.”

“It’ll be so neat to read these to my kid, eventually write a note myself and pass it on,” she continues. “It’s such a cool idea.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main

As far as names are concerned, the couple have a few favorites for both sexes, but are keeping their options open.

“We don’t have one, we have a couple. I’ve been having a hard time … I need to look in this baby’s eyes before I can name it,” Ford explains. “We have favorites, but I’ve gotta meet this baby first. I hope in that moment we know, because there are people who leave the hospital and still don’t know!”

“We have some traditional family names, some biblical names, too,” she continues. “I’m also really inspired by nature, so it’s quite possible it’ll be something a little more off the average — but nothing crazy. We’re not trying to do over-the-top celebrity names.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main
Josh Williams

The 38-weeks-pregnant Ford also recently took part in a stunning maternity shoot, where she donned a Native American-inspired ensemble for a very meaningful reason.

“In Native culture, you earn a feather for acts of bravery — usually in battle. I thought it would be symbolic of carrying and birthing a child,” she explains. “The red paint across [the] eyes was used by shamans or healers”.

“I should include that I am part Native American and wanted to celebrate that in my photos,” she continues. “I know cultural appropriation is a huge topic these days, but our baby should celebrate that he/she will be part Native/African American and [part] Caucasian.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main
Josh Williams

Ford shares that while she’s planning on going the “regular” route in childbirth, she doesn’t expect it to be perfect.

“They tell women, ‘Have a birth plan.’ And then they’ll tell women [to] just throw it all out the window, because you just don’t know what’s going to happen when you get in there,” she says. “I trust the doctor has my best interests [at heart].”

About her instinct on her baby’s sex, Ford says, “I think I’m having a girl! I have felt like that since three and a half months into pregnancy. My husband also thinks it’s a girl, but my mom thought I was a boy. In some weird psyche way, I’m prepared for a girl, so if it’s a boy, it’s going to be really funny. I’m excited either way, but it’ll be entertaining.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main
Josh Williams

Ford confesses that even though she and Nece both think they’re having a little girl, the temptation to discover the baby’s sex was never present.

“Before we got married — even before we got pregnant — we never talked about the fact that both of us always wanted this to be a surprise,” she explains. “I always knew I would hold out and wait to find out what the baby was. And he was the same way. Not for one minute have I wished I knew.”

“I think it’s a really great light at the end of the tunnel when you’re in labor,” she continues. “You’re going to find out what this baby is, [and it] just gives you a little extra motivation.”

Like most women about to go through childbirth for the first time, Ford isn’t exempt from jitters.

“I’m so nervous. There’s this thing that happens during pregnancy: Your body starts to get so over it that when it’s time, your body’s like, ‘This is so horrible, but let’s get this thing out,'” she says. “You’re just so tired and you can’t sleep, your ribs hurt — it’s the silly stuff you hear, but it’s true.”

Willa Ford Nursery Main
Josh Williams

And although Nece and Ford might share the same opinion about the sex of their baby, they differ vastly in terms of how they’re handling the upcoming stress associated with childbirth.

“I’m nervous, but my husband used to play in the NFL, [so he has a] coaching mentality. I’m like, ‘Do I need to buy you a whistle for this?'” she jokes. “He’s so cool, calm and collected about it. It’s almost creepy how calm he is. He runs the play in his head. He’s just not worried at all.”
